Meta Tried to Poach OpenAI with $100 Million Offers but Failed
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been on a major hiring spree recently, attempting to recruit top artificial intelligence researchers from rival labs to beef up Meta's new super intelligence team. Meta even offered compensation packages worth up to $100 million to employees of OpenAI and Google DeepMind. However, OpenAI's CEO pointed out that Zuckerberg's recruitment efforts have largely been unsuccessful, and has repeatedly mocked Meta in the process. Altman said on a podcast, "Meta did make some amazing offers to many people on our team, like a $100 million signing bonus, and the annual salary is far more than that... I'm glad that, so far, none of our best members have accepted such invitations." He believes his employees have made an assessment that OpenAI has a greater chance of achieving AGI.
