OpenAI Secures $200 Million Contract from US Department of Defense to Explore AI Applications in Administration and Security

OpenAI has recently obtained a $200 million contract from the US Department of Defense for a one-year pilot project. The project aims to assist the US Department of Defense in exploring how to apply artificial intelligence to administrative management and security tasks. This contract is the first project under OpenAI's newly established entity, "OpenAI for Government".

"OpenAI for Government" will integrate all of the company's existing government projects, including ChatGPT Gov designed specifically for government employees, as well as collaborations with institutions such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Department of the Treasury. Specific application areas include accessing healthcare for members of the US military and assisting in preventing cyberattacks. OpenAI has previously collaborated with weapons manufacturer Anduril Industries Inc. to develop an anti-drone system AI.
