OpenAI Signs a $200 Million Contract with the US Department of Defense
OpenAI has secured a $200 million pilot project contract to assist the US Department of Defense in determining how to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to a range of administrative and security tasks. The US Department of Defense disclosed this one-year contract on Monday, marking the latest effort by OpenAI to sell its technology to the US government.
OpenAI wrote in a blog post on Monday that this contract is the first project carried out by a new entity within the company called OpenAI for Government.
OpenAI will collaborate with the US Department of Defense to propose ways in which AI can aid in carrying out administrative tasks, such as obtaining healthcare services for US military personnel and helping to prevent cyberattacks.
OpenAI for Government has integrated all of OpenAI's existing government projects, including ChatGPT Gov (a version of ChatGPT designed specifically for government employees) and collaborations with NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Department of the Treasury.
