Qualcomm Agrees to Acquire Chip Design Firm Alphawave
Semiconductor giant Qualcomm has agreed to acquire chip design firm Alphawave for $2.4 billion. The boards of the two companies said Qualcomm's cash offer of 183 pence per Alphawave share represents a 96% premium over the closing price on March 31, the last trading day before Qualcomm announced the acquisition. The deal values Alphawave at $2.4 billion, less than half its valuation when it went public less than four years ago. The transaction will expand Qualcomm's intellectual property portfolio in the data center and 5G network sectors, advancing Qualcomm's ambitions in the field of artificial intelligence. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. Shareholders can choose to receive cash or Qualcomm shares.
