Anthropic has stopped the AI coding assistant Windsurf from accessing its Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.7 Sonnet large language models. It was previously reported that OpenAI planned to acquire Windsurf for $3 billion. Jared Kaplan, co-founder of Anthropic, explained that it would seem strange to sell Claude for OpenAI to use and said the company wanted to reserve its limited computing power for long-term partners. Windsurf said Anthropic's move forced them to urgently look for third-party computing providers. Both OpenAI and Windsurf declined to comment on the acquisition rumors.
