After rumors of OpenAI's planned acquisition of Windsurf, Anthropic cut off the company's access to its large models
After rumors emerged that OpenAI was preparing to acquire Windsurf, Anthropic cut off the AI programming assistant's access to its large models Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Jared Kaplan, co-founder and chief scientist of Anthropic, said it would be strange to sell Claude to OpenAI for use. Previously, there were reports that OpenAI would acquire Windsurf for $3 billion. Windsurf then said that Anthropic had cut off its access to the Claude large model, forcing the company to seek a third-party computing provider in a short time. OpenAI and Windsurf declined to comment on the acquisition rumors. Kaplan said the company wants to reserve its limited computing power for long-term partners.
