Amazon Research Lab forms a new Agent AI team
Amazon's R&D Lab Forms New Agentic AI Team
Amazon said on Wednesday that it has formed a new team within its consumer products development division, focusing on agentic artificial intelligence. The team will be based at Lab126, the secretive R&D unit in Silicon Valley that is responsible for developing the Kindle e-reader, Echo smart speaker, and other popular Amazon devices. An increasing number of companies are developing AI agents, with their goals no longer limited to text and image generation tools. Unlike AI services such as chatbots, agents are capable of performing multi-step, complex operations on behalf of users. The new team will help develop an agentic AI "framework" for robotic operations, an application often referred to as "physical artificial intelligence." Amazon said these systems enable robots to "listen, understand, and execute natural language commands, turning warehouse robots into flexible and versatile assistants."
