French AI company Mistral releases an ambient programming assistant
French artificial intelligence startup Mistral is launching its "ambient programming" client, Mistral Code, to compete with existing products such as Windsurf, Anysphere's Cursor, and GitHub Copilot. Mistral Code is a fork of the open-source project Continue and is an AI-driven programming assistant that bundles Mistral's models, in-IDE assistance, local deployment options, and enterprise tools into one package. Mistral said, "Our goal for Mistral Code is simple: to provide enterprise developers with a top-notch programming model that enables everything from instant completion to multi-step refactoring through an integrated platform that can be deployed on the cloud, with reserved capacity, or on an isolated local GPU."
