Reddit Sues Anthropic for Unauthorized Use of Its Data
Social media site Reddit is suing AI startup Anthropic, alleging contract violations and engaging in "illegal and unfair business practices" through the unauthorized use of the social media company's platform and data. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco on Wednesday, accuses Anthropic of using Reddit users' personal data to train models without their consent. Reddit claims it has suffered damage due to the unauthorized commercial use of its content. An Anthropic spokesperson stated, "We disagree with Reddit's allegations and will vigorously defend ourselves." Since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in late 2022, sparking a generative AI boom, Reddit has been at the forefront of the discussion. The 20-year-old website is filled with user-generated information on hundreds of thousands of topics and has been a major source of training data for large AI models.
