Google Released an App That Can Run AI Models Locally
Last week, Google quietly released an app that allows users to run a series of public AI models from the AI development platform Hugging Face on their mobile phones. The app, named Google AI Edge Gallery, is currently available for Android systems and will soon be available for iOS systems. Through it, users can search for, download, and run compatible models, which can generate images, answer questions, write and edit code, and more. These models can run offline without an internet connection and utilize the supported mobile phone processors. The app's home screen displays shortcuts to AI tasks and functions. It also provides a "Prompt Lab" that users can use to initiate model-driven "single-round" tasks, such as summarization and text rewriting. The Prompt Lab comes with multiple task templates and configurable settings for fine-tuning the model's behavior.
