☁️Amazon Accelerates Global Server Expansion, Competes for NVIDIA AI Chips
Matt Garman, head of Amazon AWS, said that the company is accelerating the expansion of global server farms, opening a data center cluster in Mexico, and building new facilities in Chile, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and other places. AWS's cloud business revenue in the first quarter reached $29.267 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17%, but lower than Microsoft Azure (21% growth) and Google Cloud (28% growth). AWS is collaborating with NVIDIA to expand its GB200 chip reserves. This chip contains 36 Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell GPUs. Garman welcomes the deployment of OpenAI models on AWS and says that it's "fine" for Anthropic's Claude model to be deployed on other platforms, but currently the vast majority of Claude's usage still occurs on AWS. Amazon expects its AI business revenue to reach billions of dollars for the whole year.
