The New York Times signed an artificial intelligence licensing agreement with Amazon.
The New York Times and Amazon Ink AI Licensing Deal
Nearly two years after suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, The New York Times has agreed to license its news content to Amazon for training the tech giant's artificial intelligence platforms. The media said in a statement that the agreement would "bring The New York Times' journalism into a variety of Amazon customer experiences." This includes news articles, content from The New York Times Cooking, a website focused on food and recipes, and The Athletic, a sports-centric website. The company also noted that Amazon's use of The New York Times' news content could extend to its Alexa software on smart speakers. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is the first such agreement for Amazon. It is also the first time The New York Times has agreed to a licensing deal focused on generative AI.
