Meta Restructures AI Team to Compete with OpenAI and Google
Axios has learned that Meta is restructuring its AI team to accelerate the launch of new products and features. In an internal memo sent on Tuesday, Chief Product Officer Chris Cox outlined the new structure, with the work divided into two teams: an AI products team led by Connor Hayes, and an AGI Foundation division co-led by Ahmed Al-Dahle and Amir Frenkel. The AI products team will be responsible for Meta AI Assistant, Meta's AI Studio, and the AI features in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The AGI Foundation division will cover a range of technologies, including the company's Llama models, as well as efforts to enhance inference, multimedia, and speech capabilities. The company's AI research division, FAIR, remains independent of the new organizational structure.
