OpenAI Announces Expansion of Stargate Data Center in Abu Dhabi and Considers Expansion to Asia-Pacific Region
OpenAI said it is assisting the United Arab Emirates in developing a large data center, which is a major overseas expansion of its Stargate AI infrastructure construction plan.
The ChatGPT developer is collaborating with G42, an AI company backed by the UAE's sovereign wealth fund, to build a 5-gigawatt data center cluster in Abu Dhabi.
At the same time, OpenAI is turning its attention to the Asia-Pacific region to find potential locations for future data centers, joining the already fierce competition in AI infrastructure construction in the region. Jason Kwon, OpenAI's Chief Strategy Officer, will visit the region to meet with government officials and potential private-sector partners to discuss the use of AI infrastructure and OpenAI software.
Bloomberg reported, citing an informed source, that Kwon plans to visit countries such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, India, and Singapore starting from next week.
