ASUS CEO Says AI PCs Still 1 to 2 Years Away from Reality
Hu Shubin, co-CEO of ASUS, said that the new generation of AI PCs may not drive market development until 2026 or even later. Although many manufacturers such as ASUS and Lenovo launched AI PCs last year, this failed to boost the sluggish laptop market. A series of tariff policies recently announced by the new US government have also lowered market expectations this year. Hu Shubin said that ASUS may consider raising the prices of its products in the US by up to 10% to offset these tariff costs. Hu Shubin said, "The initial estimate of the market growth rate of the PC industry was about 5%, but due to the uncertainty of the tariff policy, most estimates have now dropped to 1% or 2%, or may even be flat." Hu Shubin said that although the hardware supporting AI tasks is already on the market, the industry may still need one to two years until third-party application developers build software that can fully utilize these functions.
