Volvo and Google Deepen Cooperation to Jointly Develop In-vehicle Software
Volvo Cars and Google said on Wednesday that the Swedish automaker has now become a major development partner of the Android Automotive system. This move will enable Volvo owners to get system updates ahead of competing brands. "We'll be able to offer new features, functions, and experiences to our customers even faster. This really gives us an edge in creating an outstanding customer experience," said Bakenis, Volvo's global head of software engineering. Volvo Cars currently uses Android 13, but at Google's annual I/O developer conference held in Mountain View, the two companies showcased the Volvo flagship EX90 electric SUV running on Android 15, which will be launched in production models later this year. The two companies also demonstrated the Google Gemini AI model running in the EX90, and Volvo will also roll out this model to cars with built-in Google technology.
