Huang Renxun Says US Export Controls on AI Chips Are a "Failure"
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Wednesday that US export controls on artificial intelligence chips to China have failed as companies are using locally developed cutting-edge technologies. Huang said Nvidia's share of the Chinese AI chip market has dropped to 50% from nearly 95% in the early days of former President Joe Biden's administration. Huang told reporters at Computex Taipei, Taiwan's top tech show, "Local companies are extremely talented and determined, and export controls have given them the fighting spirit, motivation, and government support, accelerating their development. I think, overall, the export controls are a failure." Huang pointed out that if companies can't get Nvidia's chips, they will choose "second-best" options. Huang said Nvidia has lost "billions of dollars" due to the export controls.
