Tesla and xAI Expected to Continue Buying Chips from Nvidia and AMD
Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he expects Tesla and xAI to continue purchasing chips from semiconductor giants Nvidia and AMD, and possibly other companies as well. Musk, the CEO of Tesla, told reporters on Tuesday that his artificial intelligence company xAI has installed 200,000 GPUs at the Colossus facility in Memphis. Musk said that xAI also plans to build a facility equipped with 1 million GPUs outside Memphis. He said, "A few years ago, I made a very obvious prediction that the bottleneck in the development of artificial intelligence would be chips." Musk said that Tesla's Dojo supercomputer in Buffalo, New York, has been used to train the Autopilot and Optimus robot systems. Musk said that xAI's Colossus facility is "currently the most powerful training cluster in the world" with "over 200,000 GPUs training in coordination."
