At today's Build conference, Microsoft announced that web developers will soon be able to leverage device - side artificial intelligence in the Microsoft Edge browser. With new APIs, their web applications can access Microsoft's Phi - 4 - mini model. Microsoft said the APIs will be cross - platform, so they seem likely to run in the Edge browser on macOS as well. Phi - 4 - mini, with 3.8 billion parameters, is Microsoft's latest small - scale device - side model, launched in February alongside the company's larger Phi - 4 model. Through the new APIs, web developers will be able to add prompt boxes and offer writing aids for text generation, summarization, and editing. Microsoft said that a text translation API will also be released in the coming months. Microsoft is rolling out these "experimental" APIs as potential web standards.
