NASA's PUNCH Reveals the Sun's Invisible Wind in Stunning 3D Rainbow ColorsNASA's PUNCH Reveals the Sun's Invisible Wind. On April 18, 2025, the WFI-2 instrument (which captured its first light on April 14) took images through its three polarizers in sequence for the first time, resulting in this image. The image is colored to show the polarization (or angle) of the zodiacal light (the faint glow from dust orbiting the Sun). The hue indicates the direction, and the saturation indicates the degree of polarization. For example, the light green features are slightly polarized horizontally, while the dark blue features are strongly polarized diagonally. The position of the Sun is marked with an asterisk.
