The FBI said this scam first emerged in April 2025, taking the form of text messages or AI-generated voice messages, claiming to be from a senior US official, "aiming to build a relationship before obtaining personal accounts." Besides the above methods, scammers may also access these accounts by sending malicious links to the targets, which will divert the conversation to a separate messaging platform. The FBI said, "If you receive a message claiming to be from a senior US official, don't assume it's genuine," and reminded everyone to be vigilant against malicious messages.
