Meta Delays Release of Its Flagship AI Model
According to people familiar with the matter, Meta is delaying the release of a flagship AI model. The company's engineers have struggled to significantly enhance the capabilities of its "Behemoth" large language model, leading employees to question whether the improvements over previous versions are sufficient to support a public release. In the early stages of development, the internal plan for the "Behemoth" model was to release it in April to coincide with Meta's first AI conference for developers. Meta released two smaller models in its Llama AI model series ahead of the event, but later postponed the internal release target of the larger "Behemoth" model to June. Now, the release of the model has been pushed back to the fall or later. The company may ultimately decide to release "Behemoth" earlier, including a more restricted version. However, Meta's engineers and researchers are concerned that its performance may not match the capabilities the company has claimed publicly.
