Microsoft to Shut Down Bing Search API Service on August 11
Earlier this week, Microsoft quietly announced its plan to start shutting down the Bing Search API on August 11. This service provided raw information of Bing search results to search engine startups and other software developers. It was once a key component of many niche alternatives to Google, but recently, as Microsoft increased service fees and restricted its use, it has gradually fallen out of favor. Microsoft recommends using the "Bing Search Check in Azure AI Agents" service, which allows chatbots like ChatGPT to use "real-time public web data" to enhance AI-generated responses. The largest customers of the Bing API, such as DuckDuckGo, will still retain access after August 11, while smaller developers who are less profitable for Microsoft will have their access cut off in advance.
