The United States aims at DeepSeek and its chip supplier NVIDIA.
The US Targets DeepSeek and Its Chip Supplier Nvidia
Two months after the Chinese AI star DeepSeek stunned Washington and shook Wall Street, US officials are taking steps to crack down on the Chinese startup and the support it receives from Nvidia, a leading US chipmaker. This week, the Trump administration took action to restrict Nvidia from selling AI chips to China. The government is also considering punitive measures to prevent DeepSeek from purchasing US technology and is discussing banning Americans from using its services, according to three people familiar with the matter. Congressional leaders are also pressuring Nvidia. On Wednesday, the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, which focuses on national security threats from China, launched an investigation into Nvidia's chip sales in Asia. The committee is trying to assess whether the US chipmaker knowingly provided DeepSeek with key technologies for developing AI, which could violate US regulations.
