Webb Reveals the Smallest "Proto-Stars" in the Flaming Star NebulaWebb Reveals the Smallest "Proto-Stars" in the Flaming Star Nebula. The left side of this collage of the Flaming Star Nebula shows a near-infrared image taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, and the two illustrations on the right show near-infrared images taken by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. Most of the dark, dense gas and dust in the Hubble image, as well as the surrounding white clouds, are clearly visible in the Webb image, allowing us to see a more transparent cloud with infrared-emitting celestial bodies shuttling through it. These celestial bodies are young stars and brown dwarfs. Astronomers used the Webb telescope to conduct a census of the lowest-mass celestial bodies in this star-forming region.
