According to multiple people familiar with the matter, OpenAI is developing its own X-like social network. Although the project is still in the early stages, there is said to be an internal prototype that focuses on ChatGPT's image generation capabilities and features a social feed. Sources said that CEO Sam Altman has been privately soliciting feedback from outsiders on the project. It is unclear whether OpenAI plans to release the social network as a standalone app or integrate it into ChatGPT, the app with the highest global downloads last month. Launching a social network within or around ChatGPT could intensify the already fierce competition between Sam Altman and Elon Musk. The social app would also provide OpenAI with unique real-time data that X and Meta already have to help train its AI models.
