OpenAI said on Monday that it will soon stop offering its largest artificial intelligence model to date, GPT-4.5, via its Application Programming Interface (API). The model was just released in late February this year. OpenAI said developers can continue to use the GPT-4.5 model via the API until July 14. After that, developers will need to switch to other models in OpenAI's product catalog. OpenAI has positioned GPT-4.1, released on Monday, as the preferred alternative. An OpenAI spokesperson issued a statement saying, "GPT-4.1 performs comparably to GPT-4.5 in key areas and even shows improvements, and it comes at a much lower cost. We will deprecate GPT-4.5 to prioritize building future models." It's important to note that this adjustment is limited to the API. GPT-4.5 will not be removed from ChatGPT.
