NATO Purchases AI-Powered Military System from Palantir
NATO has acquired an AI-driven military system from Palantir, a US software company. Palantir's MSS Nato utilizes generative AI, machine learning, and large language models to "provide commanders with secure, common operational capabilities" and will be used to support ongoing NATO operations. Such a "battle space management system" enables 20 to 50 soldiers to sift through battlefield data, while in recent conflicts such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq, this task required teams of hundreds or even thousands of people. The contract was completed in just six months, and the system is expected to be put into use within the next 30 days. NATO said it completed the procurement last month, and this acquisition demonstrates the strong and enduring partnership between the North American and European technology bases. NATO stated that MSS Nato will "enhance intelligence fusion, target acquisition, battlespace awareness, operational planning, and decision-making."
