Google Shows Off New AR Glasses and VR Headset at TED
On Tuesday, Google unveiled a prototype pair of glasses that combines a microdisplay with the company's Gemini AI assistant. Google also showcased an upcoming mixed-reality headset during the demo session at the TED conference in Vancouver, with a design concept similar to Apple Vision Pro. Shahram Izadi, head of Android XR, and his colleagues presented the glasses, which resemble regular glasses and can perform real-time translation from Persian to English, scan books, and carry out other tasks. Izadi said, "This pair of glasses can work in tandem with your phone for two-way data transfer, making the glasses extremely lightweight and also giving you access to all the apps on your phone." Izadi also presented a preview of an immersive mixed-reality headset developed in collaboration with Samsung, which uses see-through video technology to blend the real world with the digital world.
