Chen Long, the former principal scientist of UK-based Wayve, has recently joined Xiaomi Group and reports to Ye Hangjun, the chairman of Xiaomi's Technical Committee and the head of Xiaomi's automotive autonomous driving team. It is reported that Lei Jun showed great sincerity during the process of inviting Chen Long to return to China and join the Xiaomi team, and he had an in-person interview with Chen Long. After joining Xiaomi Group, Chen Long will lead the VLA (Vision Language Model) team. Chen Long previously worked at Wayve, a UK-based AI unicorn. Since its establishment in 2017, Wayve has been committed to developing pure-vision end-to-end autonomous driving technology, mainly using the next-generation embodied intelligence to solve autonomous driving technology. In May 2024, Wayve received a whopping $1.05 billion Series C financing from giants such as SoftBank Group, NVIDIA, and Microsoft, which is also the largest financing in the autonomous driving industry in the past two years.
