The European Union is betting on super factories in a bid to catch up with China and the US in the AI race.
The EU Bets on Gigafactories to Catch up with the US and China in the AI Race
The European Union said it will focus on building artificial intelligence data and computing infrastructure and make it easier for companies to comply with regulatory requirements in order to catch up with the United States and China in the artificial intelligence race. The European Commission, the EU's executive arm, said it hopes to develop a so - called network of AI gigafactories to help companies train the most complex models. These factories will be equipped with about 100,000 of the latest AI chips, roughly four times the number installed in the AI factories currently being built. The announcement, part of the EU's "continental plan of action" for AI, highlights the bloc's efforts to position itself as a key player in the AI race against the US and China. The EU has been lagging behind since OpenAI, a US company, launched ChatGPT in 2022, triggering a spending spree.
