U.S. lawmakers are investigating the allegations made by a former Facebook employee that CEO Mark Zuckerberg lied to Congress about the company's efforts to launch a social networking site in China. Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri is leading the investigation into the claims made by former Facebook employee Sarah Wayne-Williams in her recently published memoir, "Careless People," which focuses on the company's desire to enter the Chinese market in the mid-2010s. In early April, Hawley joined a bipartisan group of senators to launch an investigation into the company now known as Meta. The senators allege that the company is suspected of content censorship and providing artificial intelligence tools, including surveillance software, to the Chinese Communist Party.
