Startup Uses AI to Give Indians an American Accent
Audio startup Krisp said on Wednesday that it is launching a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to change users' accents during calls. The company first supports converting Indian English accents to American English. The startup said that the accent conversion process preserves the speaker's voice and only switches phonemes to match an American accent. The feature has apparently been tested in a corporate environment, and now the beta version will be available on the Krisp desktop app. Users can enable the feature at any time during or before a call. However, when a reporter tested the feature, the processed voice did not sound very natural and sometimes even missed some words. The company attributed these flaws to the beta version and said the model would improve over time. Krisp claims that when it tested this feature with enterprises, the sales conversion rate increased by 26.1%.
