According to people familiar with the matter, OpenAI is on the verge of completing a $40 billion funding led by SoftBank Group. Investors including Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund and Altimeter Capital Management are participating in the negotiations. This deal will value the company at $300 billion. According to multiple people familiar with the matter, Magnetar Capital, a hedge fund based in Evanston, Illinois, could contribute up to $1 billion. According to one person familiar with the matter, as part of the deal, SoftBank will invest an initial $7.5 billion in the company, plus another $2.5 billion from an investment consortium. The person familiar with the matter said there will be a second $30 billion funding later this year, including $22.5 billion from SoftBank and $7.5 billion from a consortium.
