Mysterious Chinese Network Attempts to Recruit Fired US Government Employees

According to recruitment ads and a researcher who discovered this activity, a network of companies operated by a mysterious Chinese technology firm has been trying to recruit recently laid-off US government workers. Max Lasser, a senior analyst for emerging threats at the Washington-based think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said some of the companies posting the recruitment ads are "part of a broader network of fake consulting and headhunting firms targeting former government employees and artificial intelligence researchers." There is little public information about the four consulting and recruitment firms allegedly involved in the network, which in some cases share overlapping websites, are hosted on the same server or have other digital links. The websites of these four companies are hosted at the same IP address as that of the internet services company Smiao Intelligence.
